Senior running back Rudy Rodriguez rushed for 259 yards and four touchdowns in 12 carries to lead Santiago past Santa Ana, 46-28, in a nonleague game Thursday night at Santa Ana Stadium.
Rodriguez had touchdown runs of 45 and 11 in the first quarter for the Cavaliers. He also had a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown late in the third quarter.
Santiago (3-7, 1-5) attempted only one pass in the first half. After Santa Ana (0-10, 0-4) turned over the ball on its 45-yard line, the Cavaliers wasted no time. On the following play, Rodriguez took a pitch and reversed the width of the field for a 45-yard touchdown and a quick 6-0 lead.
Santiago limited the Saints to 82 yards of offense in the first half, but the Cavalier defense collapsed in the second half.
Santa Ana running back Michael Griffin had 225 yards in 12 carries in the second half.
