Kennedy Has Offense in Gear, 56-24

The focus for San Fernando High on Thursday night was stopping the region’s No. 6 offense.

The Tigers not only failed in that pursuit, they didn’t execute their offense, either.

Jerome Williams rushed for 153 yards in 15 carries and scored three first-quarter touchdowns to lead Kennedy to a 56-24 victory in a Valley Mission League game before a capacity crowd at San Fernando.

Williams, the fourth-leading scorer in the region, scored on runs of 15, 11 and five yards to spark the Golden Cougars (8-1-1, 4-1), ranked No. 7 in the region by The Times.

Williams caught a 36-yard pass from Adam Geery to set up a one-yard touchdown run by Geery to give Kennedy a 35-12 halftime lead.

James Norris ran for a nine-yard touchdown, returned the second-half kickoff 98 yards for a score and connected with Efren Lopez for a 22-yard option pass to give Kennedy it’s biggest lead, 49-12, with 10:32 remaining.

Ruben Nevarez of San Fernando (5-5, 2-3) completed 15 of 29 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns, both to Ramon Perry.

Perry finished with six catches for 116 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown catch from Nevarez with 1:59 remaining in the first half to bring the Tigers to within 28-12.

Kennedy outrushed San Fernando, 233 yards to 71.
