Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary’s first-grade teacher Marcial Jorge will be among five educators honored at the Orange County Hispanic Education Endowment Fund’s annual awards dinner today at the Hyatt Regency in Irvine. Jorge will receive the group’s Apple of Gold Award, which is given to teachers and administrators who inspire students to excel in academics and continue on to college.
Also receiving Apple of Gold awards are Cypress High School’s Lisa Castillo and Katella High School’s Manuel Colon. Cal State Fullerton’s Sylvia Alva and Santa Ana College’s John Acuna will receive the group’s Educational Leadership Award.
The Hispanic Education Endowment Fund has raised $1.5 million and awarded more than 250 scholarships since 1994.
