Diep, Tustin Sweep Away Ocean View in Volleyball

William Diep, a 6-foot-5 middle blocker, had 22 kills and eight blocks to help Tustin, ranked seventh in the Southern Section Division II poll, defeat Ocean View, 15-10, 15-7, 15-7, in a Golden West League boys’ volleyball match Friday at Tustin.
Erik Westrom added 12 kills for Tustin (8-0, 4-0 in league), which handed Ocean View its first league loss.
Jason Roth, a 6-foot-6 junior, had 16 kills for Ocean View (3-2, 3-1).
In the Empire League:
Century 3, El Dorado 0--Century’s Chris Ferretti had 23 kills and six blocks as the Centurions (4-3, 1-0) beat El Dorado for the first time in school history, 15-9, 16-14, 15-13.
In nonleague boys’ volleyball:
No. 6 Newport Harbor 3, Manhattan Beach Mira Costa 0--Billy Clayton had 24 kills and Kent Turner had 56 assists for host Newport Harbor (3-0), which won, 15-13, 15-12, 15-13. Mira Costa is ranked No. 1 in the Division I poll.
No. 10 Fountain Valley 3, No. 1 San Clemente 1--Tommy Plass had 30 kills and Nathan Hagstrom added 26 for host Fountain Valley (3-1), which won, 15-10, 15-13, 9-15, 15-12.
Gray Garrett had 41 kills for San Clemente (1-2), which lost to third-ranked Marina on Wednesday.
In Golden West League softball:
Ocean View 4, Westminster 3--Krystina Cruz scored the winning run on a bases-loaded walk with one out in the bottom of the seventh for host Ocean View (4-2, 2-1).
In nonleague games:
No. 1 Mater Dei 5, La Puente Bishop Amat 2--Tia Bollinger struck out 11 to get her 13th win and Christina Clark had two doubles and four RBIs for the visiting Monarchs (13-0).
Canyon 4-7, Brea Olinda 0-3--Lindsey Klabacha (5-5) earned the victory in both games and Laura Kimborowicz hit a grand slam in the second game for the visiting Comanches (9-5).
In nonleague boys’ swimming:
Santa Ana Valley 105, Rancho Alamitos 62--Carlos Rubio won the 50 freestyle (26.0 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:15.9) for Santa Ana Valley (4-2).
In nonleague boys’ tennis:
Brentwood 12, No. 1 Corona del Mar 6--The defending Southern Section Division IV champions handed the visiting Sea Kings their first defeat of the season.
Sean McKean, the No. 1 singles player for Brentwood (10-0), swept in singles, 7-6, 6-4, 6-0. He defeated Brian Morton in the tiebreaker, 7-3.
