HAYWARD, Calif. — A 14-year-old girl was charged with going on a highway rampage fueled by wine coolers, allegedly stealing a truck and smashing eight cars as she tried to escape from police by driving the wrong way down a one-way street.
The girl, whose name was not released because of her age, was charged Thursday with drunken driving and assault. Police allege she stole a pickup truck March 17 after drinking several wine coolers. She ran a red light and police attempted to pull her over. In attempting to evade the officers, she drove the wrong way down a one-way street and rammed a number of cars before smashing into the Hayward Fishery.
“What she was doing is beyond driving recklessly, beyond getting away from police,” said Alameda County Deputy Dist. Atty. Matt Gold.
