Discount retailer Loehmann’s Inc. said Friday it plans to close 11 stores, including one in Fullerton, as part of a proposed bankruptcy reorganization plan. The New York-based women’s clothing chain said it will try to find jobs at other stores for its 14 employees in Fullerton. Loehmann’s also has stores in Huntington Beach, Irvine and Laguna Niguel, all of which will remain open, the company said. The Fullerton store will likely close in early June, the company said. Loehmann’s will continue to operate 44 stores in 16 states under the plan, to be filed next week in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Del. The retailer operated 69 stores in 22 states before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May. The company, founded in 1921 by department-store buyer Frieda Loehmann, at one time drew shoppers by offering designer names at discount prices. In recent years, the chain was squeezed as shoppers turned to other discount clothiers.
