Red Cross to Teach Disaster Readiness

Angelenos can’t prevent earthquakes, but this Sunday they can learn how to protect themselves and their loved ones at the fourth annual Disaster Preparedness Fair.
The Los Angeles chapter of the American Red Cross has invited a variety of organizations to participate in classes and demonstrations on how prepare for earthquakes and other disasters from noon to 4 p.m. at the Red Cross Valley Service Center, 14717 Sherman Way, Van Nuys.
Classes will be taught in English and Spanish. The final session will begin at 3 p.m.
Throughout the day, Red Cross volunteers will describe and demonstrate essential disaster survival items and first-aid supplies.
Participants talk about safety with police officers, fire officials and other experts as part of Red Cross Month. Some of the presentations include “Living with Earthquakes” and “Fire Safety.” Cartoon character Tweety Bird will also be present.
