Rush Cashes In on Stanford Heckling

JaRon Rush got the greeting he expected Saturday. The Stanford student section waved dollar bills at him and the Tree, the Stanford mascot, walked within 10 feet of the UCLA huddle during a timeout with a poster-sized, customized $200 bill, complete with a head shot of Rush in the center.

He just didn’t have the game he expected.

“Not at all,” Rush said.

In his first appearance in three months, after serving a 24-game suspension, Rush made seven of 10 shots, three of five three-point shots, the game winner along the baseline in overtime and the Bruins’ final five points to help deliver the 94-93 upset of No. 1 Stanford.

“It meant a lot,” he said. “It was like a storybook ending. Being out for so long and then coming back with a game like that.

“I was thinking about it in the locker room in Stanford. I couldn’t believe it. I still can’t believe it.

“It shows I’ve still got it. It hasn’t gone away. It feels good to myself and to show people that I can still play.”
