An 18-year-old Ventura man was arrested early Thursday at home and booked into jail on suspicion of beating and robbing a couple earlier this month at their small neighborhood market, authorities said.
Richard Andrade Magallenes was being held on $150,000 bail in connection with the heist, which occurred July 7 at the Westside Market in the 300 block of Ramona Street, authorities said.
According to Ventura Police Sgt. Jerry Thurston, Magallenes entered the store and then repeatedly kicked Yung Ho Yun and Chung Nam Yun and threatened them with a handgun before stealing a small amount of cash from the register.
The sergeant said Magallenes was identified as the suspect after an investigation by the department’s Gang Violence Suppression team and county probation officers.
Magallenes was taken into custody about 7 a.m. when Ventura SWAT officers arrived with an arrest warrant and searched his home in the 300 block of Harrison Avenue, which is about five blocks from the market.
