Victim of Fatal Crash Identified

PORT HUENEME — A man killed Friday afternoon in a crash on Surfside Drive was identified Saturday as 20-year-old Mario Navarro of Ventura, authorities said.
Navarro was the only passenger in a truck driven by Kristopher Michel, 22, of Port Hueneme. Authorities believe Michel was speeding when he lost control of the vehicle and it slammed into a light pole.
The crash occurred in the 600 block of Surfside Drive where there is a slight bend in the road, authorities said. Navarro was not wearing a seat belt, said James Baroni, a senior deputy coroner.
Michel remained in critical condition Saturday with head and chest injuries at Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, police said.
No citations were issued and the crash remains under investigation.
