* Ventura College, top-ranked women’s team in the state, is seeded No. 1 in the 24-team Southern California Regional that starts Friday.
The Pirates (33-0) have a first-round bye. On Tuesday, they host the winner of a first-round game between No. 16-seeded Southwest (17-10) and No. 17 Santa Monica (19-12).
Canyons (24-6), seeded No. 4, has a first-round bye. On Wednesday, the Cougars host the winner of a first-round game between No. 13 Pasadena (18-10) and No. 20 Chaffey (17-15).
Valley (17-14), seeded No. 19, plays at No. 14 Harbor (15-15) on Friday.
In first-round games Friday in the 32-team men’s regional, No. 9-seeded Glendale (22-8) hosts No. 24 Chaffey (15-14) and No. 11 Oxnard (21-8) hosts No. 22 Antelope Valley (19-13).
On Saturday, No. 5 Moorpark (23-7) hosts No. 28 Southwestern (14-15) and No. 6 Valley (23-8) hosts No. 27 Orange Coast (13-16).
All games are at 7 p.m.
* Harry Burns, boys’ coach at Fillmore High for the last six seasons, has resigned.
Fillmore was 4-18 and 1-7 in Tri-Valley League play this season and 40-91 under Burns.
GOLF
* Brandon Christianson of Valencia shot a three-under par 69 in the final round to win the boys’ 13-14 division of a Future Collegians World Tour event on Monday at Twelve Bridges Golf Club in Lincoln, Calif.
Christianson finished at 78-76-69--223 on the soggy course, with Kyle Thurston of Moorpark second at 78-82-74--234.
Brandon O’Flaherty of Westlake Village finished fourth in the boys’ 15-19 division at 74-77-76--227.
SOFTBALL
* Jessica Mendoza, a sophomore center fielder, was selected most valuable player and helped Stanford win the Campbell/Cartier tournament after batting .429 in five games last weekend at San Diego State.
Mendoza, a Camarillo High graduate, hit three home runs, including a two-run shot in an 8-0 victory over No. 15 Long Beach State.
SOCCER
* Mike Brewer of St. Francis High will attend Loyola Marymount on a partial scholarship, Coach Glen Appels of St. Francis said.
BASEBALL
* Valley College’s alumni game is played Saturday at 1 p.m.
