Msgr. Jaime Soto, vicar for the Spanish ministry for the Diocese of Orange, was scheduled to meet with members of the Committee of Love, or Comite de Amor, Wednesday evening.
Earlier in the day, Soto said he was still convinced that the diocese made the right decision in closing St. Isidore’s Catholic Church in September.
According to the diocese, the reasons included the need for an earthquake retrofit on the historic church, but the closing also falls in line with a widespread policy that has been implemented nationwide. That policy is to consolidate smaller, mission-style churches with larger ones in the community.
The members of the committee, however, hold strong bonds to their small community church and say they are not giving up on their cause. They are trying to enlist the help of local politicians.
