UC Irvine’s Graduate School of Management is moving up the ranks of the world’s top MBA programs, according to a recent study by the Financial Times of London.
Irvine’s program ranks 22nd, up six places from last year’s ranking and ahead of such widely known institutions as Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.; University of Texas in Austin; and McGill University in Montreal.
A total of 106 programs around the globe were rated on such criteria as the quality of faculty research, alumni career progression and diversity.
“I’m delighted,” Dean David H. Blake said. “We’re clearly on the move, and this will reinforce what we’re doing.”
The graduate school, which puts a heavy emphasis on information technology and electronic commerce, is becoming more popular with students. The number of applicants has jumped 65% since 1996, Blake said.
The school has fared well on other lists. Last year, U.S. News & World Report rated it the 34th-best business school in the country, up from 43rd the previous year. Two years ago, Business Week named it one of the top 50 MBA programs nationally.
