Hertzberg Event

Re “Turnout at Hertzberg Fete Speaks to Valley’s New Clout,” Political Briefing, April 20.
The reporters got part of this story right: more than 1,000 people coming together to celebrate Bob Hertzberg’s new leadership position as Assembly speaker, not only community, business and labor leaders but also hundreds of individuals who consider Hertzberg a cut above, a leader with high energy, intelligence and the skills needed to direct forward-thinking legislative action.
Yet the writers of this column seemed unable to resist politicizing the event. Our company was one of the financial sponsors of the celebration. Our firm does not do business before the Legislature, and even if we did, so what? We all should be concerned about good government and excellence in leadership. That’s what Hertzberg is all about. That’s why we participated. To suggest some other motivation was a cheap shot. So next time, please rain on someone else’s parade. You picked the wrong venue this time.
