Back-to-Back Home Runs Key Laguna Hills’ Victory

Katie Schorling and Erica Corley hit back-to-back home runs in a three-run fourth inning Friday as Laguna Hills defeated Woodbridge, 5-4, in Sea View League softball at Laguna Hills.
The Hawks (16-8, 3-2) held off Woodbridge (15-8, 3-2), which rallied with three runs in the fifth and sixth, keyed by a two-run home run by pitcher Breana Bohls.
The victory moved Laguna Hills into a three-way tie for second place with Woodbridge and Irvine. Aliso Niguel took sole possession of first.
In another Sea View League game:
Irvine 8, Newport Harbor 0--Senior Kari Singley gave up one hit and struck out six for Irvine (15-7, 3-2) and her sister, Kendra, hit two home runs for the Vaqueros (15-7, 3-2).
In the South Coast League:
Dana Hills 5, Mission Viejo 0--Sophomore Candice Rainwater pitched her first no-hitter, allowing two walks. She has given up only two earned runs over her last 27 innings.
In nonleague girls’ swimming:
No. 7 Canyon 107, Cypress 61--Lauren Mathewson won the 100 freestyle (58.75), the 200 freestyle (2:09.6) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay (1:56.8) and 200 freestyle relay (1:48.1) teams for Canyon (10-1, 4-1). Lauren Volcan finished first in the 50 freestyle (26.3) and 100 backstroke (1:08.1) and Erin Volcan won the 100 butterfly in 1:00.7
Santa Ana Valley 96, Los Amigos 74--Junior Jami Cortez won the 50 freestyle in 28.88 seconds and swam the first leg on the winning 200 freestyle relay in 2:10.20 for host Santa Ana Valley (4-8).
In the Santa Barbara boys’ volleyball tournament:
No. 6 San Clemente wins twice--Nick Gardner had 26 kills and Spencer Bemus had 24 to lead San Clemente (11-4), which beat Los Angeles Loyola, 11-15, 15-10, 15-13, 17-16, in the quarterfinals.
In the first round, Gray Garrett had 24 kills and Gardner added 15 in the Sailors’ 15-13, 17-15, 15-13 victory over Santa Barbara.
No. 7 Newport Harbor wins--Bill Clayton had 24 kills for Newport Harbor, which defeated Simi Valley Royal, 11-15, 15-13, 15-10, 15-12, in a quarterfinal match. In the first round, Newport Harbor (11-3) defeated Fresno Clovis West, 15-8, 15-3, 15-13, with setter Kent Turner contributing 45 assists.
In the Sunset League:
No. 10 Esperanza 3, Edison 0--Brett Beeding and Brandon Dowhan each had 13 kills for host Esperanza (9-5, 5-3), which won, 15-11, 15-3, 15-4. Steve Hastings had 45 assists for the Aztecs.
Sean McLaren had 15 kills for Edison (6-13, 1-7).
