Cervenka Makes Pitch for Record

There’s certainly more at stake at 4:15 today than just the Downey tournament championship when Newbury Park plays Crescenta Valley at Montrose Park.
Meredith Cervenka of Crescenta Valley is one inning shy of a state record 268 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run.
But to match the record set by Lindsay Parker of La Canada from 1993-94, Cervenka will have to get past Oli Keohohou, one of the region’s most explosive hitters.
Keohohou, a career .462 hitter who bats third, could possibly end the streak with one swing in the first inning.
“That would by fun,” Coach Lynn Baum of Newbury Park cracked.
Cervenka was primed to break the record Tuesday against Arcadia, but the Pacific League game was rained out.
