Teens Honored for Music, Dance

Alex Torrico, 17, of Huntington Beach took first-place honors in classical voice at the Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County’s 12th annual Spotlight Awards competition Monday in Los Angeles. The young baritone, one of 12 finalists from Los Angeles, Riverside, Ventura and San Diego counties, won $5,000.
Ballet dancer Jamie Brianne Dee, 17, of Orange and cellist Paul Wiancko, 16, of San Clemente each won $2,500 awards.
The Spotlight Awards were created in 1988. The 12 finalists who competed Monday were chosen from more than 800 high school applicants.
