The city is taking its dispute with the Festival of Arts to the state attorney general’s office.
According to City Attorney Philip Kohn, the festival, which is vying to end its 68-year residency in Laguna Beach, is not adhering to the principles of its articles of incorporation and bylaws.
“The attorney general has the discretion whether or not to look into it,” said Kohn. “We’ll send a request by the end of the month.”
The nonprofit organization, which contends the city is charging it an exorbitant rent, is in exclusive negotiations with San Clemente for a new site and lease.
