Giving Good Weight
Thirty-two years ago, my son Mark was the first in our family to build a pinewood derby car as a Cub Scout (“Petit Prix,” by Barbara Wolcott, March 12).
The other boys had dubbed his car “the water truck” because of the water-filled pill bottle glued to its rear end. During the weigh-in, the bottle was uncapped and water was released drop by drop until the car met the maximum weight specifications. Mark had the heaviest car there, and the fastest. On race night, I arrived home to, “I won, Dad! I won!”
