Snowstorm Causes Large Power Outage

As much as half a foot of wet, heavy snow blew across Michigan, postponing public events and knocking out electrical service for thousands of customers. Consumers Energy utility and Detroit Edison together reported more than 40,000 households without power around the state. The same storm had rolled across the Plains and upper Mississippi Valley on Friday. Michigan State University postponed its baseball doubleheader with Penn State in East Lansing because of 3 to 4 inches of snow on the field. Southwestern Minnesota got up 13 inches of snow. In eastern South Dakota, Huron got 11 inches.
