Upland 24, Marina 14--Marina quarterback Beau Brown ran 81 yards to score the first touchdown of the game with 1:50 left in the first quarter.
Wide receiver Joe Winford followed up with a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter to give Marina (1-1-1) a 14-0 lead. But after that it was all Upland.
Kevin Ara made a 14-yard field goal in the first quarter to put Upland on the board.
Caz Hill scored on a one-yard run in the second quarter and on a two-yard run in the fourth quarter to put Upland ahead, 17-14.
With 1:48 left in the fourth quarter, Geramie Bascomb scored on a 15-yard run to cap the scoring for the host Highlanders (2-1).
“We were expecting a tough game, but we expected to do well and we did,” Upland Coach Tim Salter said.
Marina played without running back Ray Mietkiewicz, who is out with a wrist injury.
