PANORAMA CITY — A 19-year-old Sylmar man was shot to death during a confrontation with gang members Thursday evening, Los Angeles police said Friday.
Carlos Mora was shot in a parking lot in the 14600 block of Lanark Street and died at the scene about 6:30 p.m., said Det. Jim Rahm of the Los Angeles Police Department Van Nuys Division.
Rahm said police do not know if Mora was a gang member or why he went to a parking lot at Lanark and Van Nuys Boulevard, a gang hangout.
“There was some disagreement of some sort that escalated into a physical fight that caused [Mora] to flee,” Rahm said.
Mora ran for several blocks to another parking lot, where gang members caught up with him, Rahm said.
One man shot Mora multiple times with a handgun.
Anyone with information should call LAPD Van Nuys homicide detectives at (818) 756-8377 or (818) 756-8343.
