Foothill Wins in Water Polo

After a slow start, third-ranked Foothill picked it up in the second quarter against Corona del Mar to take a one-goal lead at halftime on its way to a 10-5 victory in nonleague boys’ water polo play Friday at Corona del Mar.
Foothill (2-0) was led by senior Pat Logan’s four goals. Teammates Doug Leach and Blake Seymour each scored twice and Adam Katz had five saves.
Garrett Gentry had three goals for No. 4 Corona del Mar (0-2).
In the Long Beach Millikan water polo tournament:
Los Alamitos 15, Edison 7--Trevor Wawrzynski had four goals and Erik Geoffroy and Jeremiah Lidyoff each scored three to lead the Griffins (2-0). B.J. Ploessel made three saves before being replaced at the half by Andy Gentner, who made five. The Griffins play Long Beach Poly in the semifinals at 11:30 a.m. today at Harvard Westlake.
In nonleague girls’ tennis:
Bolsa Grande 13, Santa Ana 5--Lisa Pedraza won, 6-0, 6-2, 6-1, and Hanhi Tran won, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, to lead Bolsa Grande (3-1).
Canyon 13, Westminster 5--Kim Niino didn’t lose a game at No. 1 singles for host Canyon (3-2).
Costa Mesa 15, Century 3--Freshman Hillary Havens swept, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0, improving her record to 12-3 for Costa Mesa.
No. 9 Cypress 14, Long Beach Wilson 4--Gunjan Nanda won, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2, to improve to 8-1 in singles for host Cypress (4-0).
Santa Margarita 13, El Toro 5--The Eagles won all of singles sets, led by Erin Miller, who didn’t lose a game.
