Fans Legally Park the Blame on Bruins

How utterly “absurd” it is that Bob Toledo blames The Times for essentially “defaming” the UCLA football program [Sept. 15]. Doesn’t he realize that his own players did that for him when they broke the law?

Unlike USC alumni, I will not blame the L.A. Times for our players’ crimes. Unlike Notre Dame, I will not consider my school “above” such bad behavior. Unlike Nebraska, I will not make excuses for my players’ crimes. As a UCLA alumnus, I expect a higher standard from all our students, and I applaud the district attorney for aggressively prosecuting my alma mater. These players fail to carry the torch that Jackie Robinson and Ralph Bunche have lighted. They should be ashamed.
