Hoover 14, South Pasadena 7--Joshua Witkop rushed for two touchdowns and broke up a pass in the end zone in the final minute at Glendale High to help Hoover (1-1) end an 18-game losing streak dating to the 1997 season.
Witkop, who scored on runs of five yards in the second quarter and one yard in the fourth quarter, broke up a pass by Keith Greene with South Pasadena (0-2) facing fourth and goal from the Hoover five.
Hoover took over with 58 seconds left and ran out the clock.
Quarterback Aldo Marin rushed for 59 yards in 15 carries and passed for 41 yards for Hoover, which broke a 7-7 tie on Witkop’s second touchdown with 3:32 left to play.
Witkop finished with 50 yards rushing in 11 carries. Sam Partida rushed for 47 yards in 12 carries for the Tornadoes.
Daniel Shepard had an interception in the third quarter for Hoover.
