Cal State Northridge 80, Cal State Dominguez Hills 55--Center Brian Heinle had a game-high 21 points to lead the Matadors before only 328 at Northridge.
Despite the annoyance of a malfunctioning fire alarm that resounded throughout much of the game, Northridge (1-1) was able to build an eight-point lead in the first half and steadily increased the margin in the second half.
Forward Hewitt Rolle added a career-high 14 rebounds for Northridge, which held a 40-21 lead in rebounding against the Toros 0-2.
Northridge played without forward Jermar Welch, who suffered torn ligaments in his left thumb in the season-opening loss against USC. Welch is expected to have surgery next week and will be sidelined eight to 10 weeks, Coach Bobby Braswell said.
