Police to Hand Out Free Trigger Locks

EL MONTE — The Police Department will hand out trigger locks to local gun owners for free on Saturday as it conducts its fifth gun buy-back program aimed at reducing the number of weapons in the community.
The locks will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, and the police will pay $50 for a handgun or rifle.
“We are very serious about making El Monte a safe community. Our City Council has authorized [the department] to spend $5,000 from our asset forfeiture funds to buy these guns,” said Police Chief Wayne Clayton.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the rear of the City Hall complex, 11333 Valley Blvd. El Monte residents can also ask an officer to come to their home to complete the buy back by calling (626) 580-2183.
