On a blustery Tuesday at Mission Lakes Country Club in Desert Hot Springs, the sister act of Hana Kim of Brentwood High and Ina Kim of North Hollywood Harvard Westlake swept to the top two places in the Southern Section individual girls’ golf championships.
Hana Kim, a senior who has signed with Northwestern, shot one-under-par 71 to win by three shots.
Ina Kim tied for second with Kim Kowabunpat of Upland and Hwanhee Lee of Cerritos and was awarded second after a two-hole sudden-death playoff. Kowabunpat claimed third after the playoff.
Defending champion Young Pak of Cerritos Gahr shot an 82.
Hana Kim, ranked No. 11 in the nation, birdied her first three holes and was four under after six holes, then played steady until she recorded a bogey and triple-bogey on her final two holes, Nos. 8 and 9, in the shotgun tournament.
“This is totally unexpected,” she said. “I haven’t been out on a course for four weeks.”
