Kindness in Russia

In regard to the letter complaining about disreputable people and exorbitant service charges in Russia (“Russian Misadventures,” May 23), I can only say that I never encountered any of those problems.
I was in Russia twice last year and am returning this summer. I found the Russian people to be extremely generous and honest. When I got lost in Moscow, a Russian woman guided me through two subway routes until I safely reached my destination (and declined my offer to pay her)!
