Saddleback College student Jennifer Kalena, 19, of San Clemente was sworn in Monday as the South Orange County Community College District’s newest student trustee. She was elected by the student bodies at Saddleback and Irvine Valley colleges in April. Kalena said two of her goals are to try to open up communication between the board and student government groups, and to hold regular office hours at the college to help students as much as possible.
Student trustees cast advisory votes on issues as a way to ensure the student voice is heard. Kalena will serve for one year.
