Esperanza 3, Crescenta Valley 0--Dusty Russell and Phil Peterson each had 12 kills and Scott Winant had 48 assists to lead Esperanza to a 15-7, 15-10, 15-10, second-round victory. The Aztecs (17-2) will play second-seeded Los Angeles Loyola.

Fountain Valley 3, Arcadia 0--Brad Keenan had 21 kills to lead host Fountain Valley to a 15-7, 15-8, 16-14 win. Tommy Plass chipped in with 14 kills for the Barons (11-6). The Barons play top-seeded Simi Valley Royal on Friday.

Marina 3, Manhattan Beach Mira Costa 1--Jeff Wootton had 32 kills and Scot Austin had 17 to lead Marina to a 17-15, 15-8, 12-15, 18-16 victory in a match that lasted almost 3 1/2 hours. Wootton had a kill to put the Vikings up, 17-16, in the final game, and Austin had a block for the match point. Tamer George had 17 kills for Mira Costa (15-10). Marina plays Newport Harbor in the third round.

Newport Harbor 3, Long Beach Poly 0--Al Limon had 16 kills to lead third-seeded Newport Harbor (32-2).

Billy Clayton added 14 kills and Matt Jameson chipped in with 10 for the Sailors. Limon also contributed five digs and three blocks.

In Division III:

Laguna Beach 3, Playa del Rey St. Bernard 0--Miles McGann had 16 kills and added five blocks to lead second-seeded Laguna Beach to a 15-8, 15-5, 15-8 victory.

Peter Anderson contributed 29 assists for the host Artists (12-9).
