He Could Have Learned a Lesson From Wood

I was sorry to read about the death of Stan Wood, the former USC golf coach. I had the privilege to working with Stan for several years on the sports staff of the old L.A. Mirror. He was well liked by everyone, including our boss, the late Sid Ziff.

Stan Wood was a big man, not only in stature but in spirit. He also was very generous. On many occasions, he offered to give me free golf lessons, but I never took him up on it. I still regret it.
