Carolina, Michigan Tracks Not the Same

Shav Glick [May 7] said that calling the IRL race was the right thing to do after the fatalities at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. I agree with his take on that, but not with his take on the situation at Michigan.
It would have been impossible to get rescue workers in to the Michigan track or to get patients out with the entire crowd trying to leave at the same time. The infrastructure for fans getting to and from the track is very different at these two places.
I commend Humpy Wheeler for making a tough call and ending the race after the deaths. I do not, however, feel that it would have helped the situation at Michigan.
