La Jolla-based Agouron Pharmaceuticals Inc. reported fiscal third-quarter net income of $7.9 million, or 23 cents per share, on revenue of $157.5 million, compared with net income of $13.5 million, or 44 cents, on revenue or $113.3 million, a year ago.
* Carpinteria-based Benton Oil & Gas Co. reported a first-quarter net loss of $8.7 million, or 29 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $21 million, or 71 cents, a year ago, which included a charge. Revenue dipped to $18 million from $28.5 million a year ago due to lower production and depressed oil prices.
* Los Angeles-based commercial real estate services company CB Richard Ellis reported a first-quarter net loss of $1.8 million, or 8 cents per share, compared with a loss of $30.3 million, or $1.60, a year ago. Revenue rose 33% to 233.2 million.
* Los Angeles-based Grill Concepts, operator of the Daily Grill restaurant chain, reported first-quarter net income of $262,000, or 2 cents per share, compared with restated net income of $60,861, or 0 cents, a year ago. Sales rose to $10.2 million from $8.2 million a year ago.
* Merisel Inc., an El Segundo-based computing hardware distributor, reported first-quarter net income of $20.5 million, or 26 cents per share, including charges, compared with net income of $3.6 million, or 5 cents, a year ago. Revenue rose 18% to $1.3 billion from $1.1 billion.
* Woodland Hills-based Zenith National Insurance Corp. reported first-quarter net income of $104.4 million, or $6.09 per share, compared with $7.1 million, or 42 cents, a year ago. Net income for 1999 includes $104.3 million, or $6.08 per share, of realized gain on the sale of CalFarm Insurance Co.
