2 Winners in Competition to Play as Soloists With Pacific

Two winners in the seventh annual Pacific Symphony Chinese American music competition will play with the orchestra in a concert led by Carl St.Clair on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Irvine Barclay Theatre.
First-prize winner Chu-Fang Huang, 16, will be the soloist in Saint-Saens’ Piano Concerto No. 2. Huang also won $1,500.
Second-place winner Xiaomu Fang, 24, will play Elgar’s Cello Concerto. Fang won $1,250.
Violinist Shelly Ren, 18, who won the third-place prize of $1,000, will not play in the concert.
The three competed last month at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa in a field of 21 contestants from around California.
