Laura Lee, a 5-foot-8 shooting guard who led Palmer High to an Alaska state title, has signed to play women’s basketball at Vanguard University, Coach Russ Davis said Monday.
Lee was selected the most valuable player of the Alaska state tournament and was an honorable mention All-American choice by USA Today.
“She is strong and can rebound well,” Davis said. “She had 271 three-pointers in her career, so obviously she can shoot the ball, too. I think she’s going to help us achieve our goal, which is to win a national title.”
YOUTH BASEBALL
The Fullerton Stingers completed round-robin play at the AAU 14-and-under World Series with a 15-3 victory over Fairfax (Va.) in Chickasha, Okla.
Cole Garner hit a first-inning grand slam and Steven Wright also had a home run for Fullerton, which has outscored three opponents, 43-10. Fullerton’s Andy Norman had three hits and drove in three runs.
BICYCLING
Liechtenstein’s Andreas Clavadetscher held the lead for the second consecutive day of the Race Across America bicycle competition.
Clavadetscher was the only rider through time station 31 in Kingfisher, Okla., which is 1,572 miles into the race.
Five other riders led by second-place Wolfgang Fasching of Austria had passed through time station 30.
