Police wounded a 23-year-old man at a Mission Hills home early Monday after he pointed a shotgun at an officer, a Los Angeles police spokesman said.
Steven Short of Mission Hills was shot once near the hip and taken to a local hospital for treatment, said Sgt. Willie Guerrero. The officer, Michael Patton, was not wounded.
Patton and three other Los Angeles Police Department Foothill Division officers entered the house in the 15100 block of Kingsbury Street shortly after 12:40 a.m. to investigate reports about objects being thrown from a vehicle nearby.
Short pointed the shotgun at Patton, who had knocked on the door of a bedroom Short was in, Guerrero said. Police also said they found drug paraphernalia in the house.
After being treated for his wound, Short was transferred to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center jail ward and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
Police also arrested Bradley Dowell, 23, of Reseda on suspicion of marijuana possession and Travis Garlits, 21, of Mission Hills on suspicion of throwing objects out of a car. The three men are being held in lieu of bail ranging from $10,000 to $50,000.
No officers or other suspects were injured. Police are continuing to investigate.
