An allegedly drunk driver struck and killed one man and seriously injured another man Sunday night as they ran across Coast Highway in Laguna Beach, police said.
The fatally injured man, a 30-year-old from Dana Point, was not immediately identified pending notification of his family, said Laguna Beach Police Sgt. Ray Lardie.
A 24-year-old man from Dana Point suffered major injuries and was admitted to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo.
The accident occurred about 7:25 p.m. on Coast Highway at 3rd Avenue.
The two pedestrians ran across four lanes of Coast Highway and were hit by a car driven by John Alston Aubel, 51, of Laguna Niguel, who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of felony drunk driving, Lardie said.
The car was traveling about 60 mph in a 45-mph zone, Lardie said, and the pedestrians were not crossing in a crosswalk.
