NORTHRIDGE — A man in his early 20s was stabbed in the back early Sunday as he walked near a Tampa Avenue restaurant, police said.
The unidentified victim was listed in critical condition late Sunday at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, said Sgt. Dan Mastro of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire Division.
At 12:30 a.m., the man was walking with friends in the 8800 block of Tampa Avenue in front of a Marie Callender’s restaurant when a car pulled alongside and three or four men jumped out, Mastro said.
They “started a fight with the men going into the restaurant,” he said. “One of the men from the car produced a knife and stabbed the victim in the back.”
The assailants then got into the car and drove southbound on Tampa, Mastro said. No description of the car was available.
The victim was taken to the hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department rescue workers, said Bob Collis, a Fire Department spokesman.
Investigators are trying to determine whether the victim knew his attackers, Mastro said.
