Disruptions

High-speed chases, low-speed chases, bomb threats. While people sat for hours in traffic, late for their Christmas dinners. It brings to mind what my 10th-grade math teacher, Mrs. Silbersweig, advised us when we acted up: “When you waste one minute of 30 people’s time, you’ve wasted 30 minutes.”
The next time a madman engages in such malicious mischief, holding thousands of people up for hours, the solution is simple: Do the math. Five thousand people times two hours is 10,000 hours. Or a little over 400 days in the pokey. Sounds fair to me.
And it might give the next madman pause. If you’ll pardon the expression.
