Solag Disposal will collect Christmas trees for three weeks following the holiday to keep the trees from taking up space in the landfill.
The company--which serves San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano and Dana Point, among other cities--rounds up used trees after every holiday season as part of a statewide effort to divert recyclable, reusable material from the landfill, said Dan Beatty, Solag recycling manager.
Residents should leave their trees at the curb along with any other trash on their regular collection day, Beatty said. There should be no lights or ornaments attached and no plastic water bowl or metal tree stand fastened to the base.
Residents are being asked to cut trees longer than 6 feet in half to make them easier to collect, Beatty said.
