JAMMU, India — Clashes between separatists and security personnel in Kashmir left seven militants and three policemen dead, officials said Saturday.
Guerrillas fired at police Friday night when they were stopped at a checkpoint at Safawal, a village near Samba, officials said. Three policemen were killed in that attack.
Army soldiers raided a militant hide-out and gunned down six guerrillas in Lakshan village in Doda district, an army spokesman said. Another militant was killed in the Kalkote area of Rajouri district in Jammu province, he said.
The guerrillas want Kashmir to break away from India and remain independent or join with neighboring Pakistan.
