Regarding Paul Dean’s review of the Ford Excursion (“Massive Transit,” Behind the Wheel, Nov. 17):
Let the environmentalists howl. They are just elitist snobs, out of touch with mainstream Americans.
The Ford Excursion, Chevy Suburban and similar vehicles fill an important need that environmentalists don’t seem to appreciate.
Those with feelings of inferiority get an instant ego boost when pulling up in one of those babies in front of their buddies. No more questioning their masculinity now, and it is a lot more fun and possibly cheaper than therapy.
Then there are the increasing legions of folks who need the cavernous room to accommodate their ample posteriors, not to mention emergency supplies of potato chips and beer. How they heave themselves up in there is another question. Perhaps Ford should provide some sort of hydraulic device as an option.
And what about campers? How can you carry TV sets, satellite dishes and all-terrain vehicles, essential to the enjoyment of nature, unless you have something the size of a Ford Excursion?
Ford is filling an important need for a significant segment of our society, and the company should be applauded for it.
