The Los Altos Conquerors (13-1) finally turned the tables on Miramonte League foe and defending division champion Charter Oak, 33-3, at Citrus College in Glendora before a crowd of 5,000 in the Southern Section Division VII final.
The loss snapped the Chargers’ 27-game winning streak after their perfect 1998 season.
Charter Oak’s only score came on a 23-yard field goal by Soren Storch with 7:53 remaining in the second quarter to make the score 7-3.
It was downhill from there on as Los Altos used the running of Joey Gonzalez, who carried 16 times for 109 yards and two touchdowns of 43 and 11 yards. Sean Forge had nine carries for 42 yards and one touchdown.
The Conquerors also got adequate passing from quarterback Felipe Aguilar, who was six for 12 for 82 yards, including a touchdown pass to Ramon Martinez. Martinez had four catches for 52 yards.
The Los Altos defense limited Charter Oak (13-1) to 206 total yards while recording three sacks on quarterback Greg Valenzuela. Valenzuela also was intercepted three times, twice by linebacker Fernando Valdivieso.
Earlier this season, Charter Oak handed Los Altos its only loss, which ultimately decided the Miramonte League championship.
