2 Million Tune In to Republican Debate

The Republican presidential debate on Monday night--the first televised forum in which the candidates questioned one another--drew slightly more viewers than any of the previous four debates in the 2000 campaign, according to industry estimates.
About 2 million people watched the debate among the six major Republican presidential candidates, which was broadcast from Phoenix on CNN.
In contrast, Nielsen Media Research reported that ABC-TV’s “20/20” drew the most viewers among Monday’s prime-time programs, with about 12.7 million viewers. Almost 10 million people tuned in to CBS’ comedy “King of Queens” and about 6.9 million saw the Fox special “CinderElmo.”
