Rocketdyne Report

* Re “Rocketdyne Report a Beginning,” Ventura County editorials, Nov. 21.
Yes, it’s a beginning! All the data in this report unfortunately came from Rocketdyne, the polluter. Now it is time for the federal agency to get data from independent consultants!
The Times article, “Santa Ana Winds Topple Trees, Down Power Lines,” (Nov. 23) uses meteorological data from an independent weather company. The desert winds from the southwest are totally left out of this federal report! Why? Were toxic substances from Rocketdyne’s burning chemical wastes for 40 years without filters distributed by these winds? Is there a higher incidence of cancer to the west of Rocketdyne?
Please e-mail Sens. Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein and demand a tumor study that includes cases back to the 1960s within a 10-mile radius of Rocketdyne. Also, demand independent ground water and soil testing for toxic chemicals and radioactive pollutants. To date there is no independent study of adjacent properties. No one with a financial interest in the test results should be overseeing this study, including the federal government.
