Sherman Takes Charge For North Hollywood

Richelle Sherman had 24 points and 10 rebounds as North Hollywood High beat Crescenta Valley, 56-42, Friday in a pool-play game of the Crescenta Valley girls’ basketball tournament.
Kaipresha Price added 19 points and seven rebounds for the Huskies (3-0).
North Hollywood opened up a close game in the fourth quarter after holding a 39-37 halftime edge. Price hit two three-point baskets to begin the fourth and Sherman had two three-point plays as North Hollywood took a 52-42 advantage.
North Hollywood plays Alhambra in the title game at 7:30 tonight. Crescenta Valley (2-1) plays Grant for third place at 6 p.m.
Grant 57, Canyon 52--The Lancers blew an 11-point third-quarter lead before rallying in the fourth quarter of a pool-play game of the Crescenta Valley tournament.
Leslie Mui made five three-pointers and scored 23 points for Grant.
Grant, Alhambra and La Canada each finished with 3-1 records in pool play, but Alhambra advanced to the championship game by allowing one fewer point than the Lancers in the four games.
Royal 50, Saugus 31--Kristen Galbreath had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Highlanders (3-0) in a Monrovia tournament semifinal.
Palisades 60, Harvard-Westlake 53--L’Tanya Robnett had 28 points and 10 rebounds for the host Wolverines (0-1).
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Oxnard 88, Alemany 68--Center Nicholas Curtis had 29 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots for Oxnard in a Saugus tournament semifinal.
Forward Ricky Hernandez had 21 points and 15 rebounds for the Yellowjackets (3-0), ranked third in the region by The Times, and Matthew Merricks added 16 points and nine assists.
Remy Maynard had 22 points for Alemany (3-1).
Oxnard plays Ridgecrest Burroughs at 5:30 today for the championship.
Thousand Oaks 85, St. Monica 67--Tim Chevalier scored 31 points and made nine of 15 shots for the Lancers (3-0) in a pool play game of the Loyola tournament.
Chevalier, who has scored 77 points in three tournament games, was five of 10 from three-point range for Thousand Oaks, which plays Regis (Colo.) in the championship game tonight.
Crescenta Valley 87, Venice 67--James Jenkins had 29 points and 14 rebounds to help the Falcons (4-0) win the Burbank-Hoover tournament championship at Hoover.
Jenkins, the tournament most valuable player, made 13 of 19 shots.
Burroughs 79, Burbank 74--Keith Jarbo scored 24 points for the victorious Indians (2-1) in the third-place game at the Hoover-Burbank tournament.
Frank Reed had 30 points for the Bulldogs (2-2).
Aliso Niguel 49, Crespi 45--Andrew Moore had 13 points and nine rebounds, and Mike Grimes had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Crespi, which rallied from a 15-point deficit but lost in the semifinals of the San Luis Obispo tournament.
Crespi (1-1) trailed, 37-22, in the third quarter before scoring the last nine points to close within 37-31. The Celts pulled within 43-40 with just under 2:00 to play.
Crespi committed 18 turnovers. The Celts face San Luis Obispo in the third-place game today at 4:30.
Moorpark 66, Hueneme 63--Todd Tomlinson made 10 of 11 free throws and finished with 27 points for Moorpark (2-0) in a semifinal game of the Nordhoff tournament.
Moorpark made 20 of 22 free throws.
Anthony Camper scored 27 points for Hueneme (2-1).
Nordhoff 54, Channel Islands 46--Etienne ) Emanuel had 10 points, eight assists and 11 rebounds for Nordhoff in a semifinal game of its tournament.
Dusty Baier had 11 points and 13 rebounds for Nordhoff (3-0), which grabbed 50 rebounds.
Palmdale 83, Jurupa Valley 82--The Falcons blew an 11-point halftime lead, regained it late in overtime and held on in a pool-play game of the Serrano tournament.
Eric Brown scored 29 points and Turan Sanders scored 23 for Palmdale (3-1).
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Chatsworth 2, Thousand Oaks 0--Leila Pate and Jenna Fodor each scored on assists by Shannon DeVos in an intersectional game at Chatsworth (1-0).
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Moorpark 80, Mt. San Jacinto 69--Dan Galvanoni scored 22 points and Kenny Plummer had 17 points and 11 rebounds for Moorpark (6-3) in the semifinals of the Antelope Valley tournament.
