Westlake Looking for a Fly Swatter

Westlake High is deeply concerned about a fly.
The Warriors are preparing for the Arroyo Grande fly offense, a tricky misdirection scheme, in a Southern Section Division IV semifinal on Saturday night.
On the snap, the quarterback usually fakes a handoff to either of the running backs or the motion back, creating confusion for most defenses.
“You don’t know who has the ball,” said Coach Jim Benkert of Westlake. “It’s a quadruple option. We’ve got to prepare because we don’t see that.
“It’s an offense that if you don’t play a lot against, it causes you some trouble. And if you have athletes and speed, which they traditionally have, you really have trouble.”
Second-seeded Westlake (11-1) has to make the trip to Arroyo Grande but does have some tradition on its side.
The Warriors swatted Arroyo Grande--and the fly--in a 41-28 victory in the 1996 Division III quarterfinals.
