Gemstar International Group Ltd., which makes technology for interactive television directories, said it acquired a Web-based TV program guide service, Electronic TV Host, from closely held TVH Inc. for undisclosed terms. Electronic TV Host provides online interactive program guides on Windows-based software. Harrisburg, Pa.-based TVH also produces printed cable TV guides. The acquisition will enable Gemstar to add to guides it already offers as a built-in feature in new TVs and VCRs. As part of the agreement, TVH will market Gemstar’s Web-based electronic program-guide services, including Electronic TV Host, to its cable customers. Pasadena-based Gemstar fell $5.88 to close at $113.75 on Nasdaq.
