Mayor Bob Bell recently reiterated his strong support for an international airport at the closing El Toro Marine base. Bell, who sits on the aviation advisory committee for the Orange County Regional Airport Authority, said he fears that if there is no airport at El Toro, it will mean a greatly expanded John Wayne Airport. That, he said, would mean more planes flying over Villa Park. The last City Council voted in favor of the El Toro proposal, but the council gained two new members in November and has not taken a formal vote on the issue.
